In my role as Faculty Officer, it was my job to act as the main student liaison between the student body and the Faculty of Medicine in Southampton. I met with roughly 30 year representatives and key staff from the Faculty of Medicine throughout the year to discuss important issues and feedback that is often generated by the student body. Through the power of student feedback, I was able to work collaboratively with the Faculty towards changing and moulding the various programmes, so that they can be adjusted according to what students think works and what doesn’t. As part of my role, I also took care of and represented the academic interests of students from all years and programmes to the Faculty, with my overall aim being that medical students feel fully supported to be able to learn and study to the best of their ability.Attending key meetings, often with the Associate Dean Education and University Vice-President Education and sitting on and chairing various committees made up a major part of my role as Faculty Officer. I sat on the Staff-Student Liasion Committee Committee (SSLC), Faculty Undergraduate Programmes Committee (FUGPC), Faculty Education Committee (FEC), Postgraduate Taught Programmes Committee (PGTPC) as well as the Faculty of Medicine Executive Board (FMedExecBoard).Staff-Student Liason Committee (SSLC) is a forum for students and staff to meet and discuss relevant issues from anything related to the Medicine programmes in Southampton. I acted as the Chair of this meeting that consists of approximately 60 members of Faculty staff and students. Responsibilities included gathering relevant feedback, ensuring an apropriate agenda is set and distributed and ensuring that the meeting runs smoothly in my role as the Chair. Show less This role involved representing the academic and pastoral interests of approximately 250 medical students in my year group at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton. The role entailed sitting on steering committees with key faculty staff and providing student-generated feedback from regular focus groups/interactions to help better improve the shape of the Medicine programme at Southampton. It also required excellent communication skills when having to relay important information to the entire cohort. Show less
