    • Arup

      Jun 2019 - Aug 2019
      Mechanical Engineering Intern

Working on the Mechanical team at Arup, I contributed to high-profile projects across the country ranging from Dublin Port upgrades to data centre development. My experience gave me exposure to the consultancy industry and instilled in me the importance of efficiently managing and prioritising multiple critical projects simultaneously. Working with a Senior Mechanical Engineer, I provided design, BIM and on-site support ranging from proposing design improvements to reviewing engineering drawings prior to client submission. I also gained extensive experience with Autodesk Revit software and completed Autodesk-certified Revit 3-day training course. Show less

    • Nokia Bell Labs

      Jan 2020 - Jun 2020
      R&D Engineering Intern

With Nokia Bell Labs, I worked on cutting edge research contributing to the development of both 5G technologies and data centre server cooling methods. I designed and constructed experimental test rigs to assess thermal properties of surface coatings under pool boiling using high-speed imaging and total internal reflection (TIR). This gave me strong experience in lateral thinking, problem solving and experiment control and documentation. Using Matlab image processing tools, I was able to analyse and quantify the aqueous capillary rise in an array of potential thermally conductive materials captured using high-speed infrared cameras.Alongside my experimental work, I gained invaluable experience in technical writing and authored a research review paper submission for INTERPACK 2020. • SUGAR Network for Design Innovation

      Oct 2020 - Jun 2021
      Innovation Engineer

SUGAR is a global network that brings together students, universities and companies for the future of design innovation through a new learning experience. The global student team prototype, test and iterate in order to develop and implement innovative solutions to real world design challenges posed by multinational corporate sponsors. With an international team of Irish and Brazilian students, I designed a novel method of urban farming and distribution which aimed to sustainably change the relationship between the consumer and food production. As part of this process, I investigated market trends, interviewed possible customers, iterated through a detailed design process and developed an exciting business model and working prototype which was showcased at the SUGAR EXPO 2021.This design journey involved a range of skills from market analysis and problem identification to international teamwork and conflict mitigation to CAD design and hands-on building skills. • FIRE1 Foundry - Biomedical Start-Up

      Oct 2021 - Feb 2024
      Mechanical Engineer

I worked as a Mechanical Engineer with FIRE1, a biomedical heart failure start-up, applying continuous improvement methodologies to a strictly controlled manufacturing line. This gave me significant experience in working in a highly complex, ISO13485 regulated, FDA-audited environment. I managed the introduction of >30 novel process steps & fixtures from ideation through to cross-functional agreement and process implementation with the use of lean principles. This required close cooperation with the quality department and gave me significant exposure to QA activities and risk assessment. I implemented GMP guidelines and trained manufacturing technicians on improvement projects achieving high production standards and reducing defective product. By communicating with various suppliers, I broadened my technical knowledge and management skills in areas such as supply chain management and equipment purchasing. I continued my development of strong CAD/prototyping skills (Solidworks, Fusion360, Ansys) and extensive FDM & SLA (Resin) 3D Printing knowledge. Show less
