I provided leadership and oversight for four branches with a varied range of responsibilities.I led the implementation of the Child Support System Redesign Project. This project was the largest implementation of SAP Social Services in the world. Key to success of this project is strong project management and driving collaboration between business and IT teams.I also had responsibility for the implementation of reforms to the Centrepay payment system. Centrepay is a deduction service for customers to manage their payments. I also held two external independent appointments. I am the Chair of the Audit Committee for the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity, and I was a member of the Audit Committee for the Department of Parliamentary Services. Show less The Debt, Appeals and Health Compliance (DAHC) Division is unique as it is involved in every payment made by DHS, both social welfare and health payments. Debt Management Branch is responsible for managing the debt recovery process relating to social, health and welfare programs, and compensation recovery for Centrelink programs. The role of the Appeals Branch is completion of reviews relating to any welfare program. Health Compliance was responsible for managing the department’s compliance activities relating to health programs, focusing on health professionals and public compliance. The Division undertook stakeholder engagement with key health professional representative bodies and informs practitioners to encourage voluntary compliance. Show less As Chief Financial Officer I had overall responsibility for the financial management of the Department of Human Services. This included responsibility for the preparation of the Portfolio Budget Statements, internal budget allocations, management accountants, and day to day financial operations. I was responsible for the integration of the separate financial systems administered by the three agencies; the Department, Centrelink and Medicare Australia that merged into the Department of Human Services on 1 July 2011. This included integrating all financial processing into one shared service centre, to handle all activities for the entities that merged to become Human Services. Show less With the merger of the Human Services Portfolio I was appointed General Manager for the integrated department. In this role I was responsible for all internal audits as well as the internal fraud investigation function. The number of staff brought together made the audit activity arguably the largest in the Commonwealth outside the ANAO.In this role I was responsible for bringing together organisationally the staff and activities of the three agencies (Department of Human Services, Centrelink, Medicare) whilst continuing to deliver the three Audit Programs and establishing an integrated Audit Work Plan and for managing the integration of three Audit Committees.During this time I became an active participant of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and was elected a member of the Australian Board as well as Deputy Chair of the ACT Chapter of IIA.I was the Australian delegate of the International Public Sector Committee of the IIA.
