    • Gearing to Go

      Apr 2003 - now
      Product and Service Developer

Gearing to Go (GTG) is a small business that produces creative and engaging products to convert individuals and families into outdoor enthusiasts. I started GTG while instructing beginner skiers and recognizing the need to provide education that helped newcomers: plan and prepare, know what to anticipate, and feel encouraged on arrival. I had worked extensively with rental shops, ski resorts, outdoor retailers, and manufacturers, which quickly allowed me to build partnerships. The original GTG products included videos, pamphlets, and boot fitting posters, which were packaged separately for direct-to-consumer and the snowsport trade professionals. GTG developed one of the first comprehensive programs to address the industry wide growth initiative, focusing on the recruitment and retention of ski and snowboard participants. During the re-launch, GTG is expanding services with a new toolkit covering outdoor recreation in winter and summer. Designed with easy to access contemporary platforms, the products focus on preparedness using innovative strategies that maximize the rewards of getting outdoors, while reducing the most common barriers. The mission of the PSIA/AASI Women’s Initiative Task Force (WIT) is to invest in women through educational programming, women’s events, financial support, and mentoring both at the divisional and national level. In 2020 WIT conducted a nationwide survey consisting of 23 questions (targeting challenges, barriers, and motivations) designed by the Task Force. It was distributed to all current female members (9,206) with a response rate of 45% including 5,372 open comments. The key areas identified in the survey were:-Women don't feel like they belong-Implicit (unconscious) bias is systemic; we need to implement training to address this-Women tend to leave before they achive-We need to make training and mentorship more accessible-Plan logistics that consider family obligations, time, and travel-Gear issues are barriers for many women-Women's events need to be accessible and relevantThe survey results are helping to inform and guide WIT's goal setting, action plans, and the development of women in leadership roles throughout the PSIA-AASI association. Additionally, to share insights and recommendations with internal and external stakeholders. Show less I lead training for instructors, trainers, resort management, and patrol (NSP) including single and multi-day events complimenting a variety of audiences. I also design and implement innovative indoor and on-snow experiences to support professional development and certification. I work directly with resorts to provide program evaluations (beginner through advanced products), staff training, and help instill best practices which improve ROI on instructor training and guest retention. I served on the National Education Leadership Council overseeing nationwide consistency in both education and certification. My work for PSIA-AASI has included travel to Japan and China to conduct training and certification events. Additionally, traveling to Ushuaia, Argentina and Pamporovo, Bulgaria to lead clinics for Interski. I have also worked extensively with resorts across the country, providing support for the professional development of instructors and training coordinators. This cumulative experience has given me a broad perspective of the snowsport industry's strengths and challenges, enabling me to provide clients with contemporary best practices and strategies for success.
