      Oct 2014 - Dec 2017
Lead Cloud & Virtual Platform Specialist

My initial role was to be responsible for the growth, change & availability of the IT infrastructure in the various data centres around the globe. Working closely with multiple departments I was able to improve, streamline & dramatically improve application performance and availability. As the software functionality and complexity grew and the customer base increased, the entire infrastructure was doubled without downtime or impact on the existing customer SLA. This involved working closely with the various teams while ensuring that there was sufficient capacity in place to support the demands of the new functionality. Additionally, working to standards and to best practice was not good when I first joined so I additionally had to change the culture of the delivery organisation to a more complete, standards-based model. At this point the infrastructure was approximately 800+ machines. In early 2016 a strategic decision was made to move all deployment to the cloud. This involved the design and build of multiple regional VPCs and networking to support the complex business requirements. My role in planning and delivering this was as the technical lead with responsibility for ensuring the planning, documentation, delivery methodology, migration process, and ongoing monitoring and maintenance to ensure our continued service levels to the business and end users. All new customers software is now delivered directly from AWS and my role is to manage the ongoing deployment, growth, and availability of the platform for new software functionality and the ongoing ability to ensure all service level agreements are met. Additionally I work closely with our developers to ensure that applications are built to best practices and standards so that we can fully embrace the CI/CD methodology. The move into AWS has resulted in a more agile and flexible platform where we can deploy systems in hours rather than weeks and has meant huge saving from the closure of legacy physical DCs.
