      Program Manager Intern

I worked on two projects as an intern on the Windows Azure Datacenter Team. The first one was the design, implementation, and testing of a team dashboard that displayed our datacenter portfolio on a Bing map inside an intranet website. The website also did some analytics on available data to determine when a region will run out of capacity. My second project was to act as a program manager to streamline a data conversion process from taking 5 days to taking 30 minutes. We finished the beta version and the final product was delivered on time. Show less

      - I managed the cloud growth for SQL Azure, DocDB, Exchange, and Exchange Online Protection. This means I educate these partner teams on how to cost-effectively and scalably grow their server footprint in our MSFT datacenters. It's a fun combination of strategically planning for the business years in advance, and tactically handling time-sensitive problems to ensure their current capacity meets their business needs. - I am also my team's primary "data guy". We create reams upon reams (old metaphor, I know) of data. I take the role of using it to determine how effectively we are managing our cloud capacity and where we can improve our performance. If you can measure it, you can improve it. I spend a lot of time writing one-pagers for new metrics and initiatives. The model I tend to favor is to create the proof of concepts myself and then hand those off to a different team to maintain. "Fail fast" is a personal philosophy of mine. - Planning is an exciting place to be in the cloud because it is so cross-functional. I spend a majority of my days interacting with cross-functional teams with different goals, targets, and priorities; I work to find the best way to solve problems with these different goals and ambitions in mind. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is a start-up environment, I wear many hats. Some of the hats: - Business Development - Develop plans to increase our revenue story for Oracle cloud- Reporting - Build reports for downstream teams to inform them on which customers are growing and where they should focus next. - "Data guy" - Be the subject matter expert for many of our cloud datasets (ie, financials), helping the team answer questions like "How profitable are our products?"- Data architect - Redesign our data warehouse to make the TBs of data we have more discoverable and intuitive for our users Show less
