Understanding the biology of cancer cachexia to develop therapeutic options not only for cachexia but also for various metabolic conditions. Purified, identified and characterized lipolytic factors from cancer cells that cause cachexia. Purified recombinant proteins in E. coli for signaling studies. Characterized the effects of the lipolytic factor both in vitro (cell culture techniques) and in vivo (mouse models of obesity) Identified a crucial multi organ cross-talk that drives the cachexia syndrome.
