From American slavery to allegations of a post-racial America, this course provides a comprehensive historical lens of what it means to be Black in America.Course Goals: • Participants learn to view films historically as one of a number of sources offering an interpretation of the Black Experience • Participants acquire a knowledge of the key terms, facts, and events in Black history and Culture and thereby gain an informed historical perspective• Participants learn the ways in which White allies supported Black liberation & advancement• Participants take from the course the skills to critically appraise varying historical arguments based on film and to clearly express their own interpretations• Participants develop the ability to synthesize and integrate information and ideas as well as distinguish between fact and opinion/stereotypes• Participants are encouraged to develop an openness to new ideas and, most importantly, the capacity to think critically Show less
