  Operations Engineer

  My role as an Operations Engineer in the Digital 24/7 Operations team is mainly providing 2nd / 3rd line operational support for Windows and Linux based platforms that exist on virtual, cloud and physical hardware infrastructure, as well as supporting systems that are used to produce, publish and serve content for all BBC online products across mobile, tablet, desktop, and IPTV.In addition to this, a large part of my role is incident management; communicating with internal staff, senior stakeholders and 3rd parties across the organisation, keeping them informed across the incident lifecycle whilst performing technical triage, diagnosis and resolution of incidents.● Part of a remote 24/7 operations team to triage, resolve and escalate incidents as they occur across the BBC online estate in a 2nd / 3rd line support capacity. ● Ticket logging in line with best practices, working to ITIL methodologies to ensure services are maintained effectively and SLAs are met.● Using fault finding and analytical skills to apply fixes with mostly proprietary BBC component stacks, hosted across AWS, GCP, and on-prem infrastructure. ● Utilising proactive triage and prioritisation to handle multiple critical incidents at once, and effectively communicating and delegating to a wider team when required.● Utilisation of a variety of monitoring tools to respond to alarms, providing support for a variety of internal systems● Undertaking complex stakeholder management throughout the incident lifecycle. ● Meeting with third parties and product teams to discuss and resolve on-going incidents, problems and to implement continuous improvement strategies.● Self-development including formal BBC training and using the internal skills matrix within Confluence to learn and maintain technical skills.
