With the sample size of 10 countries including emerging and developing economies from 2000 to 2012, the exploratory factor analysis technique and random effects model are used to process and test our six hypotheses. The results show that the country’s informal institutions, in the form of the cultural dimensions of collectivism and future orientation, shape the country’s formal institutions. In turn, each formal institution affects the country’s inward foreign direct investment differently. Finally, we offer some suggestions for Vietnam. Show less
