I gained confidence in my ability to think and imagine. I read Hemingway alongside Cantor, wrote essays on both Chaucer and Euclid, and am comfortable with the Chicago Manual of Style as well as MATLAB. Since language constructs both fields of knowledge, consider me a Science-to-Humanities translator, fluent in abstract and techincal jargon, who can deconstruct calculus into something readable to those who don't speak antiderivative. • The Center For Fiction

      Sept 2012 - Jun 2015

Manage operations of the library related to the collection including book orders, cataloging, reader advisory, and donations; and manage bookstore operations and inventory and display, as well as event book orders and returns. It was my duty to maintain the library before the Center for Fiction moved its offices from Midtown, New York, a location it had been in for almost 100 years, to Brooklyn. The Mercantile Library, what the library was originally called, is one of the oldest private libraries in the United States with a collection of over 85,000 books mostly dedicated to literary fiction with a very strong Mystery/Thriller selection. Open 6 days a week, and being completely in charge of the library's operations, I hired up to 8 interns per semester who I then scheduled and trained to help with shelving, general library upkeep, and front desk duties. At the front desk, either I or my intern would provide reference information on the collection and/or the many facets of the Center, answer calls and direct them to the appropriate line in the offices above, process all books checked-in/-out, ring up sales within the bookstore and over phone, answer emails directed to the general account, receive boxes, take attendance for events and reading/writing groups, etc. Show less

      Feb 2013 - Sept 2019
      Co-Founder, Ex-Head Librarian

My partner and I created a new take on the reader-writer interface specifically through social media with small press books. My duties included curating the initial collection, developing relationships with publishers and authors, designing promotions, programing, and managing public relations on multiple platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, as well as managing the space made public for the local Brooklyn community so that they could find and connect with not just books, but other people who love books. Mellow Pages Library was created in the 56 Bogart Building but moved after three years into a space within Silent Barn with access to their larger event space. It combines real world tangibility with digital methods of mass communication/connection under a strict commitment to underrepresented small and independent publications. Show less
