The innate and adaptive immune responses to lipoprotein accumulation and inflammation in the arterial wall are severely impacted by both the chronic development of atherosclerotic lesions and the acute changes in the lesion phenotype that relate to clinical cardiovascular events. All glucose measurements were performed using the OneTouch® Select® handheld glucometer. All glucose measurements were performed using the OneTouch® Select® handheld glucometer. Haematological parameters for each study group were determined using a haematology analyser Sysmex XN-SERIES and platelet and endothelial cell (EC) activation levels were determined using flow cytometer BD FACSCANTO II. Lipid profiles and pro-inflammatory cytokine measurements were determined using immunoassay-associated enzymes (ELISA). Our results suggested that the levels of circulating CD4+ T cells and platelets were significantly lowered following an atherogenic rich-diet and increased secretion of a potent anti-inflammatory impedes with immune system through suppression of T cells.
