      Joves i Ciència (Youth and Science) is a three-year summer program aiming to promote scientific careers among Catalan students. Each year, 50 outstanding students from Catalan schools are selected to participate in this program. During my first year, I participated in a project where I learnt about freshwater ecology and bioindicator organisms in the Pyrenees. In my second year, I joined a group of researchers at the ICTA-UAB (Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambiental - Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) to analyse the concentration of microplastics in La Mar Bella beach, one of the most popular beaches in Barcelona. In my third year, I attended the Environmental Studies Summer Youth Institute at the Hobart and William Smith Colleges (Geneva, New York) where the causes and effects of environmental problems were examined through economic, scientific, ethical and humanistic perspectives.
