      Volunteer of the Year Literacy Volunteers of New Jersey 2000 Near to my heart, my volunteer work with a functionally illiterate adult earned recognition from the Executive Director. Over a 6 year period of tutoring, I helped him develop solid reading skills, enabling him to pass certification exams to be a licensed Orthotics Technician (working with patients who need artificial limbs). A recipient of an artificial limb himself (lost his arm in an accident when young), my support helped him fulfill his dream.
