      Environmental Office Specialist

I was the public face of the Anita Purves Nature Center as the receptionist at the front desk greeting visitors and educators coming to enjoy the facility and programs. I hired, trained and supervised the part-time staff who served the office on the weekends and evenings. I scheduled building use and use of educational loan materials, published the Nature Center newsletter, and created posters and promotional flyers to highlight events. I scheduled field trip and large group visits to the facility. There were also accounting duties and the daily operation of the gift store owned and supplied by the local Audubon Society. Show less

    • First Presbyterian Church of Urbana

      Jan 2006 - now
      Family Program Coordinator

I select curriculum for use in the Elementary and Middle School Sunday school hours, recommend curriculum for use in the High School hour, and author some lessons for use. I coordinate the fellowship activities for the Middle School and High School youth groups, including a week long service trip in the summer. I recruit, train and manage volunteers to run the programs. I plan and implement church wide events for families and community members such as a family carnival and preschool play time in a local park. I enjoy organizing hands-on mission opportunities for all ages such as repackaging a ton of rice for the Wesley Food Pantry and transforming old T-shirts into reusable totes. Producing a children's program each year to be presented in worship, and ensuring contributing roles for children in the life of the church is an important part of what I do. I also hire and supervise two part-time employees who provide child care during church events. Show less
