      Supervised the day to day production of a variety of mapping projects consisting mostly of local engineering (subdivision and shopping centre) topographic maps, to OBM and Federal 1:50:000 and 1:250,000 scale series maps. Also worked with Alex Miller (Owner of ESRI Canada) as we prototyped digital mapping in the late 1970's using Wild A10, IBM 029 card punch with Burroughs and early VAX technologies.

      I was a Director with the International Intergraph Graphic Users Group for a period of ten years. I started as a basic Director and increased my duties to its Treasurer and in the last two years to be its President (Canadian Intergraph Users Group). We organised, promoted and were responsible for the annual Canadian Intergraph Users Groups meeting in the fall of each year, between, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver) and attended the IIGUG annual spring conference as its Canadian representative.

      I progressed to an Associate with the firm, managing all of their IBM System 36 office systems and early adopter of Intergraph RS based workstations including leading edge use of Bentley Microstation running on 8086 based PC's. I pioneered the use of rotary encoders with PC boards to reduce the cost of photogrammetric digital mapping systems (to the PC) from very expensive RISC based workstations. Duties included software development and resale of same to an international market.

      As a PM with LIS I managed a group of geospatial and software development specialists focusing on improving tools and utilities to maximise CADD productivity and distribution of core managed datasets. We also focused our efforts as translation specialist for transmission of mission critical geo data produced from various GIS technologies (ESRI, MapInfo, Intergraph and Bentley) to third party systems such as the Toronto Police Emergency Dispatch system. We also produced and sold CD sets of aerial imagery etc., (in professional packaging) as far back as 1995. Show less

I managed a group of 34 technical, para-professional and professionals with skills that range from field survey, basic CADD, advanced CADD that include rendering and animation, engineering plan production, GIS and advanced GIS Specialists, Core Data maintenance Specialists etc. The Section produces a huge variety of products and services and although we are located in Transportation and Works, we provide these products and services to the entire corporation, including the City Managers' office, the Mayor and Council.
