Our project which was supervised by Prof. M.T.R. Jayasinghe (Dept. of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa) & under the Mentorship of Eng. Nishantha Kamaladasa was titled “Uplifting the quality of life of a selected rural community”; carried out at a rural village named "Pahala Maradankadawala" in Galgamuwa, Sri Lanka. The project required conducting a Participatory Rural Appraisal to determine the primary issues the community faced in order to establish the project's objective and key components. This was followed by the hydrological, hydraulic, and structural design of the spillway of a small irrigation tank in the village, which was a goal identified during the Participatory Rural Appraisal stage.
