Starting as an estimator I soon became operations manager within a year. Implementing a database to control quotes, orders and production as well as being able to analyze factory labor and costs saw the company grow from a turnover of $80k per month to $350k per month. Implementing office and production procedures ensured that rapid growth was able to take place while quality and customer service was enhanced. One notable achievement was the introduction of new machinery that enabled us to go from bulk cut to a just in time process. One of the first truss plants in Australia to make this step, it gave us flexibility in the market place, increased profits, decreased labor costs and a more pleasant working environment for the factory workers.Other responsibilities at Brisbane Roof trusses included:All factory production, including scheduling, organising staff, recruitment, performance management, conflict resolution and product quality.Coordinating freight and deliveries.Purchasing of all materials such as timber and plates.Detailing all wall frames, floor trusses, and roof trusses. All site measures, including advise to builders how to construct extensions and buildings and generally solve any structural problems they may have.Oversee all of the quotes. Decide which quotes to do or not do. Decide on mark ups and help the estimators.Fix much of the machinery in the factory or get it fixed.Performed most fix ups on site. There weren't many. Show less

Primary role was frame and floor truss detailing, involving site measures, communicating with customers and solving customer issues. Other notable achievements were:Supervising the installation of the new Alpine X4 computer saw. This was an unseen and untested saw in Australia at the time and had many issues that had to be overcome. This involved:Writing software that enabled the saw to be debugged. This was done by manipulating the output file from the design software so that bugs could be replicated and then reported to the computer programmer in the USA.Analyzing the saw to determine whether problems were software, mechanical, hydraulic or electric in nature.Writing software to utilize new features of the X4 saw.Advise on production techniques to suit the new equipment.Oversee quality and customer satisfaction of the wall frame line.Write software to streamline the wall frame manufacturing process by implementing a just in time process that saw production levels increased by 40%. Part of the process was to integrate the new TigerStop computer saw. By writing a combined optimization and sorting program, waste was substantially decreased and cutting errors were all but eliminated. The introduction of an Access database to control quotes, orders and productionCAREER SUMMARY - Show less

      Detailer / Systems Administrator

Queensland Steel Solutions is a small steel frame and truss plant. Responsibilities included; The creation of an Access Database to control incoming quotes, outgoing quotes and reports, costings and production scheduling.Fix the many detailing limitations within the Bricscad design software. This was a 6 month process that involved writing many custom Lisp computer programs. The net result was:A 50% saving in detailing time.Simplified information being sent to the factory and to site. Factory labor times were reduced by 30%. On site error rates were reduced while erection times were improved. An accurate system of estimating factory labor was introduced. This utilized the design software.A costing system was implemented sending accurate costs to an Access database for analysis against what was quoted. This also included the automatic takeoff of ancillary items and the creation of lading reports etc.Liaise with the design engineer in regards to building designs and on site issues.Mentor and oversee the junior detailer.
