Manage work, sick, and vacation schedules, receive after-hours calls/texts during major incidents, sick employees, etc., coordinate and teach annual in-service training, train newly hired 9-1-1 telecommunicators, oversee other communications training officers, review daily observation reports to ensure trainer compliance and trainee progress, create and update standard operating procedures, conduct emergency back-up center drills, perform quality assurance assessments, write performance evaluations, pull and analyze monthly call statistics to determine best work practices, pull audio recordings for performance review, participate on various job-related committees, establish and nurture relationships with other departments and agencies both within and outside of Duke, participate on hiring boards and review applications for employment, troubleshoot problems with equipment and databases, perform the duties of an emergency communications officer during high call volume and staffing shortages (process emergency and non-emergency calls for service, provide dispatch and communication support services for police, fire, emergency medical, and other related services, operate a multi-line telephone system and TTY system for the deaf and hearing-impaired, interview callers to obtain vital information, enter data into the computer-aided dispatch system (CAD), maintain legible and precise documentation of calls for service and related activities, disseminate calls via radio or CAD, monitor officers' location via GPS tracking software, make timely warning notifications via DukeAlert and the outdoor siren system, monitor held/propped doors on campus, review security camera footage, and other duties as assigned) Show less
