  Management Intern

  I have completed my mandatory 8 weeks internship in L&T Geostructures. My site was located at New Navigational Lock Gate, Farakka. The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) awarded the work to L&T ECC for the construction of a new Navigation Lock Gate which is being implemented on National Waterway-1 (River Ganga) at Farakka in West Bengal with a contract value of Rs 359 crore funded by the world bank.Initially I was in survey department to understand the basic outline of our project area and then in site execution where I learnt the primary setup for batching plant, pile testing, road works, boundary wall and pile foundation. My role was to make bar bending schedule and do the quantity estimations for each item. I learned about the various construction activities and the risks involved in each activity. In Planning I learnt MPCS (Management Planning Control System), scheduling of activities, rate analysis, planning with sub contractor etc. I was also clear with the line of business and the professional work flow of the organisation. The main challenge was to keep the project aligned with the schedule to avoid any escalation. The basics of civil engineering and project management learned during this internship helps me in my current career growth. Show less
