      Significant Investigations

Commonwealth v. James Porter: This first-of-its-kind 1993 case involved decades of sexual abuse of hundreds of children at the hands of then Roman Catholic Priest James Porter. I was the lead investigator responsible for conducting and coordinating hundreds of interviews and working with several local law enforcement agencies, Minnesota authorities, the FBI, and multiple church personnel from nuns to then-Bishop Sean O’Malley—culminating in an airtight case which eventually lead to a guilty plea.Commonwealth v. Jacques Robidoux: This Attleboro Cult case was known as “The Body.” I was part of a district-wide team comprised of the Massachusetts State Police, the local Seekonk Police and Attleboro Police; and I worked with the Maine State Police as well as the Maine Fish and Game Police and many other cooperating agencies to investigate and eventually bring to justice the father of the 13-month-old baby boy who died of starvation based on the group’s religious beliefs and teachings.Commonwealth v. Erik Lans: With the Seekonk Police, I investigated complaints of sexual abuse of multiple young teenage females perpetrated upon them by their Seekonk High School swim coach. Lans’ association with the victims and their families began several years earlier when they, as young children, were coached by him in a private swim club. He was ultimately convicted for the sexual assaults, amidst strong protests from his colleagues and supporters. Lans eventually admitted to his wrong doings.Commonwealth v. Paul Haynes: Lead Investigator in this case of horrific crimes of sexual abuse committed against women and children. As a result of the investigation and eventual prosecution of Paul Haynes by Assistant District Attorney Rebecca Miller in the early eighties, he received a precedent setting 40- to 60-year sentence.Throughout my 32-year career I was directly involved in approximately 4,500 child abuse investigations, both civilly and criminally.
