      Unit Counselor

As a unit leader I was responsible for the safety and welfare of 5-20 children aged 5 to 16 each week. I would work with my co-leader and area specialists to plan the week's activities based on what the girls told us their interests are. I ensured that they ate balanced meals and maintained proper hygiene and would mediate any issues that arose between them. I taught outdoor skills such as fire building, plant identification, shelter building, and leave-no-trace methods. When some free time between activities came up I came up with quick games or lessons to keep the children engaged. I helped check the children in and out with their parents and answered any questions that they made have about their child's experience. Show less
