      Jul 1993 - Aug 1995
      Hospital Corpsman

I was a Field Marine Qualified (NEC 0000/8404) Hospital Corpsman, and my final duty position was as a senior corpsman on a medical/surgical ward at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. This position familiarized me with ward shift scheduling, supply management, staff training, and safety.

      Jul 1998 - Jun 2008
      Driver/Owner-Operator

I owned and/or operated semi tractors and light to medium recovery vehicles over a ten year span in transportation of general, refrigerated, and flatbed freight throughout the United States and Canada and in vehicle recovery and container hauling in the Pacific Northwest. This work, both as an employee and a business owner, regularly brought me in contact with ISO 9002 standards, industrial settings, the physics and operation of heavy machinery, and often had me performing difficult tasks in inclement weather. • Tennessee Technological University

      Aug 2012 - May 2015

NSF funded REU/VRE research position. Starting in summer 2014 and lasting through May 2015, I was tasked with designing, sourcing, procuring, constructing and/or overseeing the construction of, and operating a prototype scale field test for a Tennessee Tech/University of Akron developed shrinkage reducing admixture (SRA) for concrete. Responsibilities included:• Designing the layout and setting the conditions, goals, and assumptions of the test.• Vetting my design with appropriate chemical and civil engineering professors and appropriate agencies (such as the Tennessee Department of Transportation).• Site selection and approval among various TTU and private properties.• Procuring all needed sensors, equipment, and labor on-time and in-budget.• Organizing construction of the field test so as to complete each stage just before the start of the next one.• Once all concrete was poured, all sensors were wired in, and all relevant computer data recording systems were in place, monitoring the progress and collecting the test data.• Training of a replacement so that the test can be monitored for a period of up to two years. The prototype was finished on September 26th, 2014, with initial readings taken 24 hours later. As of my leaving the project in May 2015 it was performing well, and delivering solid data. Production Engineer

Engineering work in support of corn wetmilling and processing into starch, dextrose syrup, crystalline fructose and fructose/dextrose syrup, maltodextrin, allulose, 1,3-propanediol, fuel grade ethanol, animal feed, and treatment of resulting waste streams.Specific areas of responsibility in the refinery included troubleshooting/optimizing mechanical recompression and multiple effect falling film evaporators used to reduce the water content of various corn syrup/sugar refinery products, redesigning, building, and managing a safe and functional distribution system for 36% HCl throughout the plant, oversight of the production of various DEs of maltodextrin from starch to the bag, chromatographic fractionation, carbon filtration and on-site furnace regeneration, and managing steam use and heat/condensation reclaim within the refinery as a whole. In the Supply Side I provided engineering support for corn wetmilling, gluten/germ/fiber processing into oil precursors, meal, and animal feed, and our natural gas fired electricity/steam cogeneration plant.Protocols/standards/software I'm experienced with:• PSM• HACCP• MOC/COC• ASME B31.3 Category M Hazardous Liquid Piping Standard• ASTM D-3299 and ASME RTP-1 FRP Tank Standards• TRAs/PSSRs• FHA• Excel, Project, Visio, CATS, SAP Show less

    • AECOM

      Feb 2019 - Jan 2020
      Plant Engineer 1

Provided engineering support at the US Department of Energy's Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Washington state. The mission is to build and operate a plant to immobilize liquid nuclear waste in a solid glass form, to provide safer storage and transport opportunities. Following the change of AECOM to Amentum at the start of 2020 this position continued with the new company.

      Jan 2020 - now
      Plant Engineer

Contractor working with Bechtel to build and prepare the WTP for operation for the Department of Energy’s Office of River Protection.Procedural, design, and development responsibilities for construction, start-up, and commission of the following systems:• Flash evaporator requiring quiescent boil conditions.• Vessel headspace and evaporator non-condensable active ventilation with associated drying, filtering, and testing.• Chemical receiving, storing, and distribution throughout the plant of sodium hydroxide.Highlight of my WTP work experience:• Provided the experience and knowledge needed to write relevant, safe, and effective operating procedures and perform first-use validation for those evaporator procedures and for procedures for systems/components around the evaporator. Provided onsite technical experience and leadership to bring the WTP evaporator system throughout startup and commissioning and provided Operations with the key insights and troubleshooting knowledge necessary to bring up this complicated system for the first time and successfully for many times thereafter. Operations is now able to confidently bring up and maintain the WTP evaporator with a minimal level of support from Engineering. Show less
