      Gary was promoted to Deputy Commissioner in 2014. Leading the Portfolio’s of State Crime Operations, Counter Terrorism and Specialist Operations Capabilities, State Traffic Command, State Intelligence Portfolio, and the Judicial Services Portfolio. During this time Mr Dreibergs was central to a number of major change programs including the establishment of Family Domestic Violence Response Teams and the Mental Health Co-Response Teams. As the Deputy Commissioner leading State Crime he restructured the Major Crime Division to increase resources and focus on Cold Case Homicide investigations including the MACRO investigation. Gary represented WA Police Nationally on the Australian New Zealand Counter Terrorism Committee and the Deputy Commissioners Operational Forum. In 2017 Gary was moved roles to lead the Portfolio’s of Metropolitan and Regional WA, Operations Support, and Professional Development and established the State Operations Control Centre.In February 2019 Gary became the operation Commander for the Western Australia Police Force emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic, establishing Operation Tide. The role of Operation Tide in keeping Western Australians safe, and the economy going, was multifaceted, and required significant leadership. The structures within Operation Tide and the technology implemented were central to meeting the demands of the State Government, The technology he helped lead the development of became the G2GPass and G2GNow. These systems became central to the State's ability to manage over a million people movements safely through borders during the pandemic, and manage their safe quarantine at home. Gary was central to the success of the State of WA obtaining the right to host, and safely running the World Surf League at Margaret River and Rottnest Island, and the 2021 AFL Grand Final. Show less Gary was promoted to Assistant Commissioner in 2008 and placed in charge of the Professional Development Portfolio with responsibility for the Police Academy, Police Recruiting, Academic and Professional Development, and Workforce Development Division including Police Promotions and Workforce Planning. During his time at Professional Development Portfolio Deputy Commissioner Dreibergs key achievements included leading the implementation of the Police Auxiliary Officer model, delivering the addition 500 police officer program, introducing the Investigative Practices Doctrine, delivery of contemporary Use of Force guidelines and training based on Coronial and Judicial Inquiry outcomes, and introduced the contemporary On-road Driver Training model.       Gary joined the Western Australia Police Force in 1983. During this time, he led Broome PCYC and was recognised for his contribution to the Broome community. After 40 years of service in the WA Police Force, he's now a board member of WA Police & Community Youth Centres (PCYC).

      Gary joined the Board on 1 July 2022 after 40 years' of experience with the WA Police Force, serving as Deputy Commissioner for seven years. He established Operation Tide, delivering the WA Police emergency COVID-19 pandemic response. During this time, he was instrumental in ensuring sport continued safely in WA, including major sporting events such as the AFL Grand Final and Bledisloe Cup.
