    • Breathe Day Spa

      Mar 2001 - Aug 2002
      Master Esthetician

I started out working at the front desk, and when I got my esthetics license, I began working in the spa. I did facials and waxing, and sold professional skin care products. I have let my license expire, so please don't ask me to wax anything for you.

    • Sam Weller's Bookstore

      Aug 2002 - Jul 2005
      Book Seller

It was estimated that, if you lined up all the books from the basement at the old Sam Weller's, the books would stretch for a full mile. I spent three years down there, shelving books and tracking them down later in the maze of rooms that snaked around under the building in the middle of the 300 South block on Main Street in Salt Lake City. In certain rooms, there were relics from the building's past; in the portion that was a punk club in the '80s, there were flyers still hanging on the wall and faded labels on shelves where you could see they stored "WHISKEY." It was rumored to be haunted, and I have reason to believe those rumors are true. The store has since moved to a smaller, presumably less haunted location and re-branded themselves. I probably can't still recommend something good for you to read, but if you'll tell me what your five favorite books are and what your Myers-Briggs type is, I can recommend a good TV series to watch. • Dexterity Salon

      Aug 2005 - Aug 2007
      Receptionist

At this popular 8-chair salon, the front desk was a busy place where two people answered phones, scheduled appointments, checked clients in and out, supported the stylists with cleaning, and ensured that retail product shelves were stocked. I also participated in the creation of text for promotional materials, including the website, flyers for events, and social media.

    • Overstock.com

      Sept 2007 - May 2016
      Content Marketing Manager

I started as a copywriter in 2007, managed the editorial content team from 2008 to 2011, wrote and monitored content quality part-time from 2011 to 2013, and returned full-time in 2013. I then managed a content marketing team. We created and managed buying guides and other search-optimized onsite content for Overstock. Because of my writing skills and my long tenure there, I worked on a wide variety of uncredited projects, including product descriptions, social media content, holiday catalog copy, and corporate information pages. • Archive Library Management

      Dec 2011 - Mar 2013
      Co-Owner/Organizer

Archive Library Management was an interior design library organization service. It was a good idea that required more than I was able to give to it. I have some spectacular Before and After photos from one architecture firm where the design samples had gotten exceptionally out of control. I only found one dead mouse under piles of flooring samples, but that was enough. Rest in peace, Archive, and, you know, that mouse.

    • Greenspace Salon

      Jan 2015 - now
      Co-Owner

Greenspace was established in 2015 by Steven from a desire to create a relaxed and welcoming space where clients can feel at home collaborating with their stylist to allow their unique style and personality to shine.

    • Dry Spell Salon

      Jun 2018 - now
      Co-Owner

We opened Dry Spell in 2018 originally to be a blow dry bar, but it has since evolved into a 4-chair booth rent salon. Like greenspace, we encourage our stylists to choose more natural hair color lines and we don't allow toxic chemical services. We prefer hair care and styling products that are more natural, and we are intentional about supporting hair product companies who share our values.

    • Birds of a Feather Salon - Bountiful, Utah

      Oct 2023 - now
      Co-Owner

Birds of a Feather is looking for like-minded people to join our flock, and that means stylists and estheticians who prefer fewer chemicals and have an embrace-your-beauty attitude. We encourage our hair stylists to use more natural color lines (like O&M, Oway, and Davines) and we don’t allow toxic chemical services like Brazilian blowouts or acrylic nails in our nest. We carry haircare and styling product lines by brands that also share this ideal.
