•Led the investigation of three different automated methods for the identification and quantification of meso-scale damage on single-layer composite laminates subjected to ballistic impact by a 5.5 mm (0.22 caliber) right circular cylindrical steel projectile•Performed the following tasks as part of research and development initiatives: • Specimen characterization and analysis using high-resolution optical images, MATLAB, and fluorescent microscopy at the point of contact • Damage characterization comparisons of manual and the three automated methods i.e., optical images only, optical images + ImageJ + MATLAB, and Fluorescent Microscopy + ImageJ + MATLAB • Directed the proof-of-principle work of a methodology to modulate (i.e., to delay or accelerate) the germination of basil seeds and subsequent growth of basil plant based on the combined use of gold nanoparticles and microwave heating, called Metal-Assisted and Microwave-Accelerated Germination (MAMAG)•Successfully completed the following tasks as part of research and development initiatives: • Determination of the combined effect of gold nanoparticles and microwave heating on basil seeds using brightfield, fluorescent images, and scanning electron microscopy • Investigated gold nanoparticle and microwave heating effects on hydroponic growth • Conducted experiments using gold nanoparticles and microwave heating to determine effects on growth of basil seeds in soil in a greenhouse • Thermal imaging analysis to determine changes in temperature in the solution containing basil seed during microwave heating and at room temperature Show less -Employed a retrospective cohort study that led to the identification of a re-emerging Hepatitis C Virus epidemic observed from 2011 to 2014 among men who have sex with men. In addition to injection drug use, high risk sexual behaviors, favorable socioeconomic status, and polydrug use fueled this increase in Hepatitis C Virus infections.-Identified that the decrease in plasmacytoid dendritic cells observed in individuals with chronic Hepatitis C Virus infection may be due to natural killer cell-mediated apoptosis via the tumor necrosis apoptosis-inducing ligand pathway.
