      Auxiliary Nurse

Working in the countries first Medical Assessment Unit as a Nursing Auxiliary was where I started my career in healthcare. The MAU at the Norfolk and Norwich was set up in 1994 and was the template to be followed by many Acute Hospitals across the country. I was responsible for the day to day care of patients with undifferentiated medical and psychological complaints, ensuring their activities of daily living were tended to, supporting the wider team by carrying out observations and recognising when these needed to be escalated to the registered nurses responsible for their care. I was also expected to assist in a variety of medical procedures often assisting the medical staff with lumbar punctures, central line insertions and catheterisation. Show less
