I was selected to participate in a 3-month volunteering programme aimed at improving livelihoods, boosting employabiilty and sustainability of local youth in Lira, Uganda as part of a diverse British and Ugandan team.I worked closely with community leaders and local youth groups for the duration of my placement, discussing local issues and priorities for training. In collaboration with other team members and local stakeholders, I planned and delivered a variety of insightful training sessions for local youth groups, focused on the development of practical skils that allowed individuals to boost their income and encouraged greater self-sustainability in the long term.I successfully lead the organisation and hosting of 2 Community Dialogue events that promoted open and peaceful discussion of important social issues of prevalence in the Lira area, such as domestic violence, which were each attended by 100+ community members. I was also a key committee member in the organisation of a bustling Careers Fair attended by 400+ young people and local employers from a variety of sectors. Show less
