  In 2013, I went on a short mission trip through my church to Togo, West Africa, where they were building a new, desperately needed hospital. The missionaries in Togo asked me to come back and spend a year with them, helping with software installation and training. This gave me an opportunity to use my background to make a difference and help others, so I left my job at Kohl’s to spend 1 year in West Africa. This experience gave me the chance to do things I had never done before. Combined with my previous IT experience, it has prepared me for the next chapter in my career.Software Support Specialist – One year overseas assignment completed November 2015• Recruited by ABWE to assist with software installation, training, problem resolution, and ongoing support issues related to opening a new hospital• Lived, worked, and built relationships in an extreme cross-cultural environment• Worked independently and achieved goals despite obstacles, adverse conditions, and less-than-ideal situations• Helped prepare for the hospital initial opening/go-live by installing multiple computer workstations, facilitating training sessions, and identifying several major software issues• Successfully trained Togolese employees to use the hospital software to perform their job responsibilities, despite language and cultural differences, and virtually no previous hands-on computer experience• Assisted at the hospital opening by answering questions, resolving problems, and developing work-arounds for minor issues. 550 patients were seen and successfully processed the first week.• Served as hospital software system administrator.
