PhD focused on climate change and the sustainability of grassland farming. This is the original form of Circular Economy where farms must maximise the reuse of existing waste streams (organic manure) and reduce reliance on chemical inputs, thereby protecting the environment and becoming less reliant on technical inputs. . Work included quantifying gaseous emissions from grassland and measuring N efficiency in terms of agronomic responses. Research helped contribute to national GHG inventories and to the introduction of low emission slurry spreading and protected urea at farm level. Results from the experiments were also presented at both national and international conferences. Show less

I was successful in creating end-of-waste status for a pharmaceutical by-product to use as an agricultural fertiliser and reduce raw material usage. I supported the wider company in Innovation and Sustainability projects for their peat-free compost and animal bedding product ranges. I dealt directly with farms and merchants to sell the benefits of using recovered fertiliser over virgin sourced materials. Managing site finances in line with the annual budget and production plan. Running of site and manufacturing process in line with KPI’s and always looking for continuous improvement to the process. I was involved in the design and creation of the plant in how to effectively handle and process the waste into products and gained experience in MEICA. Show less

This involved the monitoring and optimisation of the treatment process and coordination of the site maintenance to ensure a safe and continued water supply. Work involved ensuring plant energy efficiency was optimised, with wider sustainability and biodiversity initiatives were part of this job function. I was involved with site CapEx and automation upgrades. Role involved the management of site budget and efficiency of site inputs whilst ensuring all water parameters remained within our national and contractual limits. Show less

      Oct 2021 - now
      Regulatory and Project Development Manager

This current role involves taking waste streams through the end-of-waste process to help build Ireland's Circular Economy, by creating a level playing field for secondary raw materials so they can be marketed alongside virgin resources. We are building infrastructure to meet our national processing needs and also new innovative resource recovery plants to extend the life of valuable materials. Role involves Project Management of various CapEx Projects of ~€5m (https://enva.com/news-pr/enva-commences-construction-of-fertiliser-manufacturing-facility) within Ireland and supervision of other Project Managers within the company.I am also managing the climate change and sustainability functions of the business in creating carbon and lifecycle assessments (https://enva.com/sr22) (pp. 20-22) and looking to gain environmental product declarations for Enva's recovered materials. By expanding sustainability knowledge within the company and improving reporting standards, this will ensure our company remains proactive in managing its CSR commitments. Show less
