During my PhD, I studied nanocrystal heterostructures, with a focus in fluorescent quantum dots for imaging, lighting, and clean energy applications. I worked on several projects that investigated nanocrystals with decreased toxicity and more accessible synthesis methods in order to make quantum dots more viable for research, clinical, and commercial use. As a DYSS Committee Member, I lead the organization of our summer seminar series, where we invite eight PhD candidates and postdocs to showcase their research and practice their job talks. Roles:•Maintaining the DYSS website•Organizing an NSF-style panel for selecting our speakers•Planning logistics and schedules for our visiting scholars•Developing rubrics and scoring methods for our speakers•Transitioning to an entirely virtual seminar (due to COVID-19) Acted as a teaching assistant for several undergraduate chemical engineering courses, including Chemical Engineering Laboratory II, Process Design II, Transport Processes III, and Material/Energy Balances. Held office hours, led teaching/recitation sessions, and graded homework, reports, and labs. Organized and led up to 30 K-12 outreach efforts throughout Washington state to inspire students and demonstrate the benefits of alternative and clean energy sources. Events included the 2018 On the Move Weekend at the Pacific Science Center, the 2018 Enumclaw STEM Expo, the 2018 UW Bothell Inspire STEM fest, the 2018 Everett Innovation Expo, and several K-12 classroom visits, workshops, and STEM nights.
