The feed coal characteristics and the technological variations of the thermal power plants showed interesting differences in physical and chemical characteristics of the fy ash and thus, the environmental risks posed by them to the regional populations. I was the first person to integrate the use of fly ash in concrete mix-design as a replacement for cement on a commercial scale in India (Those days even Chief Engineers of government organizations were scared of using fly ash and we had kept this a secret for many years). This resulted in considerable savings to the company.During this period, as an independent consultant I also did a small EIA project (Holiday resort). I worked on a waste utilization project at Nellore where we used fly ash and sewage sludge for afforestation -- Outcome 25000 trees. Most of them are alive today after 11 years. Show less
