  • Developed a novel coordinate-based parametric rotor structure for permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance machines which can be implemented in a finite element-based simulation software to optimize performance indexes such as efficiency, power factor and wide speed range.• Designed and implemented open and closed-loop field oriented control systems using sinusoidal PWM scheme and necessary power electronics to drive the fabricated motor in both constant torque and field weakening regions. The motor control system consisted of three PI controllers to control speed, direct and quadrature axes currents.• Designed a state space control system for a single inverted pendulum setup and implemented on a microcontroller board including a motor controller for the BLDC motor used in the cart. The closed-loop control system consisted of LQR feedback gains and a Kalman filter for state estimation.• Investigated the possibility of converting a traditional motor bike to an electric motor bike, using a permanent magnet DC motor, necessary power electronic components and a control system to be implemented on a microcontroller board.
