      Poet, Educator, Disabilities Self Advocate

I am a spoken word poet and educator based in New York City. As a poet, I perform and compete around the country. I have performed for tens of thousands of people, and competed at some of the most-renowned poetry venues. As a teaching artist, I create original workshops and lead them around the country for students of all ages. I have led workshops at dozens of schools and organizations, including to new English teachers, as a tool for them to take back and use in their own classrooms. As a disabilities self advocate, I have advocated on behalf of people with disabilities on a national level, including lobbying in Washington D.C., and spending time mentoring students with disabilities, and working with their families. This has included helping many students with disabilities find the right college fit. I also work as a motivational speaker relating to my own experience as a student with Learning Disabilities.I published a book of my poetry in 2012 and released a live album of my work in 2014. My work has been streamed or purchased in 27 countries, spanning six continents. For more information, including show information, my online store, and my personal blog, please visit my website, http://josephdrobbins.com.
