      Officer Candidate

Candidate to become an Officer in the USMC. While I was unsuccessful in completing the program (dropped early but recommended for re-enrollment), I found it very valuable. It was quite an experience to be pushed and to push yourself literally 24/7 and to be challenged physically and mentally at levels never before undertaken.Notable Accomplishment:Recommended for re-enrollment, but after careful consideration opted not to do so.What I learned from the experience: *Stress and time management, the challenges of having more things to do in a day that could be done with a day and learning how to prioritize and face the consequences of what could not be completed. *Teamwork, individuals will fail, even when you were great at something, it was a failure if you succeeded at something, but your teammate failed. Kettle Coordinator

Ran the Red Kettle Drive in Dalton, GA in 2002. Coordinated the scheduling of volunteers and employees to maximize revenues at minimal cost. Achieved a record high gross in a poor economy, having lost two locations, in a season shorter by one week than the previous record. Also reduced direct labor costs (paid bell ringers) by roughly 15% from the previous year. What I learned from the experience: *Team management, I had a team of paid bell workers that I had to motivate to do what can be a every boring job. Overall, I had a great team that got great results and I was very proud of how they performed.*Volunteer management, volunteer management is much more like sales, and this was a great experience to work with some fantastic volunteers in the community and hopefully I let them realize the great impact of their contribution.
