  The aim of the study was to determine the difference in energy expenditure between different postural positions during office work, with fidgeting-like-activities. In addition, the influence of activity of the body and body fat on the energy expenditure was stated. The energy expenditure was measured by a respiration chamber, activity by accelerometry and body fat by an underwater weighing. As intern, I was responsible for the data acquisition, data analysis and statistical analysis. Conduct technical research on the respiration chambers' climate control system. Mainly focused on the outcome of room temperature and the relative humidity.

  During my graduation internship I wrote my thesis and worked on the development of room calorimeter equipment for indirect calorimetry measurements. During my internship I was responsible for the validation of the Sport Omnical (Maastricht Intruments) and worked on the development for a new calibration system for whole room calorimeters in a multidisciplinary team.My graduation internship was assessed with an eight.

  In my gap year I worked part-time at IDEE as a working student.As a marketing engineer, I was responsible for the literature review, combining and simplifying the outcome of the review and making relevant news reports about the current use of the Omnical as an indirect calorimeter, and the MOX as a physical activity monitor.As a medical engineer I am mainly concerned with the implementation of the Omnical in new products and finding solutions to current problems. I worked on a project that investigates indirect calorimetry in mechanically ventilated patients. It was my responsibility to research whether MI's available equipment and its specifications were suitable for the intended purpose. Show less
