    • Norwich Union Life Insurance (NZ) Limited

      Aug 1988 - Aug 1996
      Product Marketing Consultant

My first job involved gaining an understanding of the administration functions of the life insurance business in the role of a new business processing. Quickly learning my passion lay in a more dynamic environment I created an opportunity to move into sales and marketing as a Product Marketing Consultant.I had fun in this role creating and managing successful adviser sales competitions, writing and producing product marketing brochures and conceptualising and deploying direct marketing campaigns.I also undertook a 'trouble-shooter' role investigating reported 'inaccuracies' in sales activity through the completion of adviser business audits. I caught my fair share. The slightly less fun bits, though no less important, included the development of sales reporting, management of adviser loans an d debt collection, completion of management reporting and proof-reading of policy documentation. This was a great first up experience where I developed a number of corporate skills and my passion for the life and disability insurance business. • Royal and SunAlliance

      Aug 1996 - Jun 2003
      Senior Risk Product Adviser

It was this role in which I first realised I could make a positive difference in people’s lives.Responsible for the management of a range of life and disability insurance products my initial task was as part of a small team undertaking a full review of an established modular life insurance product.Through detailed customer and market research I uncovered a number of specific needs not previously met by the market and designed innovative product solutions which created market differentiation leading to a 22% increase in product revenue in the first year, with sustained YOY revenue growth of 10% over the following two years. My responsibilities later extended to the development and management of annual business and communication planning and product management strategies for the life and trauma insurance product ranges. I was lucky enough, in my latter part of my time with Royal & SunAlliance, to have the opportunity to lead the product management team. This included the formal coaching and mentoring of risk product staff, management reporting, budget accountability and a greater level of relationship management. Being able to contribute to the growth and skill development of my team was extremely rewarding. Show less

    • AMP

      Jun 2003 - Apr 2009

Having achieved significant success in my prior role I was approached to lead a programme of Lean Six Sigma(LSS) projects throughout the AMP business; focussed on the delivery of enhanced customer experience while reducing operational expenditure. This involved the creation and management of cross-functional teams, development of a LSS methodology appropriate to the AMP workplace and a strong focus on change and stakeholder management.During my time in this role I managed four successful projects resulting in:- the transition of the administration function of the ROOST mortgage broker business to AMP,- enhanced productivity levels within the life administration team of 26% and a reduction in processing errors of 21%,- reduction in operational expenditure of $240,000 annually- implementation of processing triage and pull-system work allocation systems Show less Looking to diversify my experience I joined the operational management team at AMP responsible for the co-ordination and management of all projects within the Customer Services business and was the key operational stakeholder for all external projects. My responsibilities included:- the pro-active identification of business improvement opportunities, - project sponsor and business expert for all operational projects,- development and ongoing management of operational performance reporting,- co-ordination and oversight of the operational strategic planning process,- development and ongoing management of all risk and compliance monitoring and reporting. Show less Joining this iconic New Zealand financial services brand, in a more diverse and challenging role, provided me with the opportunity to further develop my skills. My responsibilities, and there were a few, headlined with setting the strategic direction and market position of the risk insurance product suite. The on-going monitoring and analysis of cost drivers, product pricing and profitability kept the analytical part of my brain busy while the creative side dined out on the opportunity to design and implement customer engagement and retention strategies and new product initiatives.I managed the risk product annual strategic planning process for two years, encompassing product development, communications and promotional activity, market segmentation and identification of business growth opportunities.
