      Mar 2008 - Mar 2011
      Engineer II

Worked on the Watts Bar Unit 2 Construction Completion Project (Nuclear Plant) for Tennessee Valley Authority. Prepared a variety of design calculations including Flow, Setpoint, Pipe Minimum Wall, HVAC, Special Loads for Stress Analysis, Failure Modes & Effects Analysis, and Unit Interface type calculations. Checked and verified other engineers design calculations. Long-term involvement in the design and flow balancing of the ERCW System. This included modeling the entire system and developing various operating scenarios as well as determining the pump and system acceptance criteria for pre-op testing. This also included balancing the models to ensure system would operate under various operating scenarios. The ERCW has a complex interface with the CCS system, which required determining the correct heat loads on CCS Heat Exchangers and ensuring adequate cooling was provided. Show less

      Lead Engineer I

Working on the Uranium Processing Facility Project as Checking and Verification Lead for the BOA4 Calculations Group. Responsible for managing the checking and verification process on process equipment and facility safety calculations. Assign checkers and verifiers to specific tasks and attend weekly lead meetings to provide input on schedule and discuss progress. Ensure the checkers and verifiers are successfully completing their tasks and maintaining a high level of quality. Prepared multiple guidelines documents for preparing, checking, and verifying calculations. Calculations documents are extensive documents outlining assumptions, methodology, references, computations, results, conclusions, etc. Provided extensive comments and feedback during development of latest calculations procedure. Many items in the guidelines documents I prepared were incorporated in project-wide procedure. Helped train new employees on project procedures, BOA4 guidelines, and expectations. Provided training classes on attention to detail, critical thinking, checking and verification of documents, and use of AFT Arrow and AFT Fathom hydraulic modeling software. Trained approximately 25-40 people in each of these areas. Prepared weekly reports to track progress both internally and for transmitting to the client. Wrote the form letters used to transmit completed calculations documents to the client for review and to be issued. Responsible for completing the transmittal letters for each document completed. Checked and verified approximately 200 calculations documents including temperature, pressure, and density calculations using hydraulic modeling software, pump sizing, evaporator sizing, tank sizing, phase separator and coalescer sizing, dissolver sizing, relief valve sizing, control valve sizing, and safety analysis.
