      Bachelor of Science (BS)
  • Experience

    • St. Lawrence University

      Jun 2013 - May 2014

As a St. Lawrence University Research Fellow I conducted eight weeks of independent research on the population genetic structure of the North American porcupine (Erethizon dorsatum). I was able to experience equal amounts of time in the laboratory setting conducting PCR, running gel electrophoresis, and using GeneMapper to score allele peaks, as well as being exposed to the field setting where I live-trapped individuals and conducted road surveys to obtain tissue samples for DNA extraction. This project has developed into a Senior Honors Project where I am utilizing the multilocus genotype for individuals in order to determine relatedness, thereby providing evidence for the genetic mating system of this species. My main responsibilities included prepping lab classes with the appropriate equipment and supplies in order for students to carry out laboratory experiments efficiently and effectively. This includes making solutions, organizing museum specimens, and putting together machines and computer programs. I spend some time helping students through procedures and I oversee the animals used in the Biology department, with a significant portion of my time dedicated to live surgeries in the Human Physiology course.
