    • The Beaver County Times

      Aug 1990 - Dec 1992
      Sports Reporter

I have always been a writer. Writing has been in my blood since elementary school. What started out as an infatuation with poetry soon become a desire to be a sports reporter. Through middle school into high school and then into college, I wrote about sports. As a journalism major at Duquesne University, I was assistant sports editor and sports co-editor for the Duquesne Duke. While there, I served as a correspondent for The Beaver County Times, a local newspaper, writing articles on all sports at 19 area high schools as well as sports features, question & answer pieces and some college and professional sports stories. • McDonald's

      Feb 1993 - Jun 1994
Administrative Assistant, Marketing & Community Development

While taking graduate classes at Villanova, I literally started out in the mailroom in McDonald's Regional Office in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. When the company installed computers for everyone, I became the de facto IT person showing the employees how to use the software programs installed on their machines. I eventually was asked by the Marketing and Community Development managers to take the role of Administrative Assistant in their departments - a role that found me designing and writing marketing plans and food service bid presentations while also building community relations for 225 stores in Southeastern Pennsylvania, Northern Delaware and Southern New Jersey. • Arthritis Foundation

      Oct 1994 - Oct 1995
Associate VP of Development & Programs

As Associate Vice President of Development & Programs, I planned and executed a $100,000+ fundraising event called the Arthritis Foundation Mini-Grand Prix. I worked with a committee of volunteers and reported to a Board of Directors on all aspects of the race that required shutting down the Golden Triangle section of Downtown Pittsburgh for a day. This necessitated collaborating with the Mayor's office, Emergency Services and numerous other constituents. I was responsible for developing all marketing materials for the race, selling race cars for the event and garnering other donations. Show less

    • Stern Advertising

      Oct 1995 - Jul 1997
      Account Executive

After a year and a half working on the client side in Philadelphia, I assumed the role of Advertising Account Executive and Graphic Designer at Stern Advertising handling the McDonald's Restaurants in the Johnstown/Altoona cooperative and the Northern Western Virginia/Southeastern Ohio cooperative. I worked closely with the owner/operators in those regions to develop advertising campaigns that suited the clientele of their area creating in-store point-of-purchase materials, local billboard, newspaper and magazine advertisements and writing radio scripts. I also oversaw the Ronald McDonald program for Western Pennsylvania acting as liaison between the stores and the contracted individual who played Ronald. As part of my duties in the Johnstown/Altoona co-op, I was a non-voting member of the board for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Show less
