      As a summer intern, I was responsible for guiding adult and youth visitors through James Monroe’s home as a tour guide. In addition, I was responsible for operating the gift shop. During my time at Ash Lawn-Highland, I directed children’s group activities related to history and archaeology.

      Costumed Interpreter

      As a volunteer and later as a part-time costumed interpreter, I wore a costume in the style of an early 17th century sailor and greeted visitors on the ships at Jamestown Settlement. I was responsible for providing historical information to diverse groups of adult and youth visitors about the Jamestown colony. Additionally, I directed and participated in demonstrations utilizing period technology related to the ships.

      My responsibilities as Communications Specialist included the creation and curation of both internal and external communications for the County of Orange, Virginia. Within the scope of this responsibility was the development of the Orange County Insight newsletter, management of social media platforms, composing and editing written communications such as press releases, producing video content related to County functions, and performing a variety of related tasks. My goal was to increase awareness of services and promote a clearer understanding of local government among the citizens served. Show less As Programs & Facilities Supervisor, my role is to supervise participants using Parks & Recreation grounds and facilities while overseeing personnel, including interviewing and recruiting instructors, to ensure that Orange County policies are consistently followed. I plan, schedule, direct, and supervise programs and special events, working with organizational partners to create win-win situations and build strong relationships, including scheduling workers and volunteers. In a recent large project, I was one of the main staff involved in creating a new disc golf course in Orange County.I am responsible for the development of promotional materials for our activities, and achieving public awareness of the same. As an aspect of this mission, I design graphics and develop reports, presentations, and award nominations to keep our department at the forefront of the industry. My position also manages the content on departmental electronic platforms, including our website and social media. Naturally, customer service is key in this role, and I strive to create a positive impression with all citizens and stakeholders. To help make our activities truly special without putting undue pressure on the budget, I conduct fundraising efforts through local and regional businesses and organizations. I also seek out and write grant proposals under the supervision of the Director. Additionally, I process departmental finances including invoicing and assisting with budgeting and capital improvement plans. In order to keep our facilities in shape, I coordinate with internal and external partners to schedule repairs and improvements. Show less As Services Coordinator, I worked concurrently for both the Orange County Department of Tourism and the Department of Parks & Recreation.My Parks & Recreation responsibilities included customer service, program planning and operation, departmental finances, event planning, contest organization, graphic design of flyers, forms, and other documents, customer service, website & Facebook content management, and many other related tasks. A key point of my position was communicating departmental information to the public through diverse media.I was heavily involved with the development of new events such as the Liberty Ride, Playin' in the Park Independence Celebration, Michael's Mile, and the Rapidan River Day for Youth affected by Autism. In addition to this, I gained experience developing and operating new Parks & Recreation programs such as an adult dodgeball league and an Explore Archery program, among others.My Tourism responsibilities included management of the Orange County Visitors Center, scheduling Visitors Center volunteers, ad campaign development, ad design, event planning, departmental finances, departmental website and Facebook content creation and maintenance, updating the Orange County calendar of events, and other related tasks. Show less As the Tourism Services Coordinator for the County of Orange, my responsibilities included interacting with and informing visitors, scheduling and maintaining the volunteer calendar every month, stocking our brochure racks, delivering brochures to locations throughout Orange County, updating the information on the Calendar of Events, communicating with local businesses, as well as other general tasks related to tourism both inside and outside of the office.In addition to these, I was assigned the task of creating an inventory of historical resources in Orange County.       In my role as Director of Communications, Alumni Relations, and Events, my responsibilities centered around the effective communication of school programs and activities, engagement of alumni, planning and promotion of events, and development. These activities supported the mission of Grymes Memorial School.To support this mission, I designed, curated, and published weekly, quarterly, and annual publications for the school. These ranged from electronic newsletters for parents to printed magazine-length annual reports for donors and friends of the school. Communications of this nature helped foster an enduring connection between those who have been positively impacted by the school, and the dedicated faculty who continually delivered on the promise of Grymes.       VRPS Award, Best Promotional Effort-Traditional (25,001-50,000): Discount Movie Flyers Virginia Recreation and Park Society Nov 2016 Recognition of the movie flyers produced to promote our discount movie ticket program. These flyers were based on famous movie posters, but satirical in the sense that key information was replaced with our information. Despite a price increase mid-year, we had a 30% increase in ticket sales while using these flyers.
