Hassell, relying on (non-binding) guidance from the Chief Coroner, issued a protocol (known as the ‘Cab Rank Rule’), declaring that she would never give priority to deaths on faith grounds. Following a number of incidents and concerns amongst orthodox Jews, the AYBS instructed Asserson to challenge the decision. A Judicial Review application alleging that this decision was unlawful was heard on 27 and 28 March 2018.ProServ PR was brought in by Asserson to manage the PR and stakeholder communications.Against the PR goals, the team achieved the following:- Communicate the negative impact of the ‘Cab Rank Rule’ on the Jewish/Muslim communities – More than 50 pieces of coverage (half were national/international pieces) included the views of AYBS/Asserson.- Engage widespread support for the need to respect religious beliefs within the coroner system – Some of the UK’s most prominent political figures, and all of the Mayors of the London boroughs impacted by the protocol, publicly expressed their concerns about the ‘Cab Rank Rule’ and stressed the need to respect religious beliefs.- Shine a constant media spotlight on the case to encourage clear guidance for coroners on faith matters – On 27th April 2018, the High Court ruled that the ‘Cab Rank Rule’ was ‘unlawful’. On 17th May 2018, the Chief Coroner of England and Wales issued a new guidance to all Coroners in England & Wales.- Ensure the case was seen as encompassing wider issues and position Asserson as an expert on human rights law - 40 pieces of media coverage (incl. 13 nationals) carried Asserson’s expert views. Trevor Asserson was featured as the Law Society Gazette’s ‘Lawyer in the News’ and as The Times ‘Lawyer of the Week’. Voir moins

The portal, which has garnered support from Business Secretary, Vince Cable and the CBI, is a unique collaboration between the UK’s main alternative business funders and aims to make borrowing easier for the country’s SMEs whilst aiding the main banks to support applicants they cannot fund. The portal signposts SMEs to the most appropriate source of non-bank funding. In addition each of the funding providers on the portal will “recycle” the applicants they are not able to help to the site, to access other potential non-bank funding sources.Following a short period of lobbying from ABF, the Chancellor announced in August 2014 that legislation would be implemented to force banks to ‘signpost’ unsuccessful applicants for bank loans to alternative funding providers. This legislation received Royal Ascent on 26th March 2015. Voir moins
