      CEO and Founder

Together with three other partners, I founded and operated the company Avisit. Our aim was to give companies in the service sector a streamlined channel for feedback on their customer service. We used a method called "Mystery Shopping" to collect data and built a web app our customers could use to view and analyse the data. I left in 2018 to pursue a career in science, but the company still remains and grows every day.

      Research Assistant

Assisted Dr. Robert Lowe in building a computational model of the interplay between neural populations believed to be involved in differential outcome memory tasks. Studies have demonstrated that the positive effects of training by differential outcomes (feedback) extend to persons with dementia. We have been building a (neural) computational model that could explain the experimental results.

      Apr 2022 - Oct 2022

Internship at the Faculty of Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Biophysics. Project: Simulating the effect of postsynaptic AMPA-receptor organization on synaptic transmissionFast excitatory neurotransmission relies on the activation of AMPA receptors (AMPAR) by released glutamate. By using super-resolution microscopy, it has been revealed that the arrangement of AMPARs shows a remarkable organization and reorganization during long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD). How the dynamics of AMPARs and their arrangement on the postsynaptic side influence signaling and long-term modulation is not well understood. Project goal: To establish quantitative relations between AMPAR organization and synaptic transmission, we will use the simulation framework MCell (https://mcell.org/) to build in silico models based on experimental data from the MacGillavry group. What are the consequences of AMPAR clusters on transmission? Is there an optimal number of clusters, cluster sizes, and AMPAR density? What is the role of spine geometry and arrangement? Show less

      Nov 2022 - Dec 2022
      Research Internship

The Nick Ramsey lab in Utrecht researches and develops intracranial Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technology. In other words, electrodes on the surface of the brain that can detect the brain's electrical signals. The signals can be interpreted and converted into actions in computers, allowing patients to control them just by thinking. As part of the lab's research, I investigate the possibilities of detecting reliable P300 signals over the sensorimotor cortex to further develop the technology.

      Research Internship

Project title: Unsupervised learning in brain-like neural networksThe project is embedded in the rapidly developing field of brain-like computing, sometimes referred to or rather related to as neurocomputing and neuromorphic computing. In essence, brain-like computing is concerned with neural network computing systems designed to perform brain-like functions based on available knowledge about processing information in biological neural systems (ranging from the synaptic level through neural circuits to brain systems). Naturally, the level of brain-likeness depends on the intended purpose, the depth of available biological insights and the choice of neural principles to follow as well as the intended granularity of information representation. In the project, the main focus will be on Bayesian Confidence Propagating Neural Network (BCPNN) learning rule in attractor memory models, implemented in the framework of modular recurrent neural networks operating in a rate-based (non-spiking) regime.
