This research was conducted by a collaboration with CorVent Medical, a medical MV manufacturer company based in NY, USA specialist in elevating ventilation design to provide ICU-standard respiratory support in an elegant and robust system that removes unnecessary complexity and cost.• Research different artificial intelligence techniques to improve the human-MV synchrony including using computer vision to monitor and precisely detect the diaphragm movement, employing ultrasound waves to monitor and precisely detect the diaphragm movement, and collect on chest IMU data and EEG/EMG signals.• During my time working on the development of medical mechanical ventilator, only the preliminary research stage was completed which includes reviewing the state-of-art methodology to achieve the human-MV synchronization for patients in the ICU.   • Working on the development of a measurement method to estimate the Lower body negative pressure (LBNP). LBNP is a unique technique as it causes blood to shift from upper to lower body compartments without additional effects associated with a change from the supine-to-stand position. This research is implemented in the aerospace physiology laboratory (APL) in SFU and funded by the Canadian aerospace agency.• Investigate the response of cardiovascular and musculoskeletal baroreflex when applying LBNP and compare it with supine-to-stand. This research hypothesized that applying LBNP while supine can be used as a technique to activate the muscle-pump baroreflex similar to the standing posture.• Working on the design of an LBNP box that was used to apply negative pressure on the lower body. Finite element analysis has been applied on the selected material (Clear Acrylic) to build the LBNP box. I was responsible for preparing the design of LBNP box with all the required FEA and preparing the bill of materials (BOM) after contacting the prospective suppliers.• An electrocardiography (ECG), continuous BP at the finger, and absolute BP height-corrected to the heart level were collected from 12 participants (6 males and 6 females) to monitor the performance of the cardiovascular system in the lower body. Surface EMG was recorded from four bilateral lower leg muscles, including the tibialis anterior, lateral soleus, and medial and lateral gastrocnemius.• By simulating the standing posture through applying the LBNP, this research will help astronauts decrease orthostatic intolerance and avoid cardiovascular deconditioning upon arrival to Earth from the microgravity situation during spaceflight.• During my time working on this research in the APL, only the LBNP box design and data collection stage was completed. The Electroencephalography (EEG) data was acquired from four participants after the research ethical approval was obtained from the Office of Research Ethics in Jackson State University for the designed experiment.• Working on the development of Inner Speech decoding algorithm using machine learning and EEG. Different Machine techniques were employed to extract the most powerful features from the EEG data and an overall classification accuracy of 97% was accomplished.• Working on the development of a voice recognition unit using convolutional neural network (CNN) to enable the user to drive the wheelchair using his voice.• Working on the development of AI safety system to provide automatic collision avoidance, safe navigation, and protect the identity of the wheelchair user via recognizing his voice signature.
