    • Luminoso Inc.

      Apr 2012 - Apr 2014
      Chief Coherence Officer

This position was a collage of several functions -- head of Human Resources, office manager, project manager, scrum master, contract negotiator, personal assistant, chief cook, and bottle washer.I helped transition Luminoso from 6 to 24 employees, and laid groundwork for my position to be split into 3 different jobs as well as recruitment to continue for an additional 8 positions after my departure.I was responsible for the creation, tracking, and cohering of our hiring processes. We attracted a diverse, talented applicant pool with a 100% retention rate of those hired. (I was the first employee to leave the company.)I crafted our performance reviews process, our compensation budget, and our professional development plans.I wrote most of the employee handbook, a living document compliant with state and federal law while still reflecting the core values of the company. This included a progressive gender-neutral parental leave policy with generous pay, a guideline for vacation time, a team 360 feedback process, and more traditional review process with management. Thanks to my efforts, we also had employee benefits prioritized by employees, which ranged from health and dental to bicycle benefits and fitness reimbursement.I worked with management and employees to initiate new training and development activities, onboard new hires, and resolve employee relations and performance concerns.I functioned as the project manager for development goals, the representative of management for contract negotiations, and the accounts manager for client communications. I helped coordinate Luminoso's participation in events as large as SXSW and as intimate as the college hiring fair down the street. I was instrumental in two investment rounds Luminoso landed.I lent organization to company processes as often as possible, helped keep the company on task, watched the calendars of the entire team, smoothed things over when needed, and facilitated caffeine consumption. • Worldcon 75

      Oct 2012 - Jan 2017
      Convention Co-Chair

I served as co-chair for the World Science Fiction Convention ("Worldcon") to take place in Helsinki, Finland in August of 2017. This project involved monthly (and sometimes weekly) participation in international events, team coordination, and task management. I served on the executive board of this endeavor since 2012. I worked to coordinate 200+ volunteers in 27 countries during the bid phase, then 5000+ volunteer staff after winning the vote in 2015. Early on, my tasks were to manage recruitment and onboarding of staff, the early marketing plan, and donor relationships in North America. I managed marketing efforts in concert with key public influencers and supporters. My areas of oversight on the convention staff were DevOps, Finance, Hospitality, Member Services, Outreach/Marketing, Staff Services, Exhibits, and the WSFS division.I also spoke on an average of 12 panels per year internationally concerning topics such as safety, diversity, codes of conduct, volunteer coordination, and anti-racism training. While this is not a part of the usual conchair job description, it is important social justice work that I did for this organization and the community in general. Show less
