  Working with Tracy Lawson and Jack Matthews we investigated the response in Arabidopsis thaliana (Col-0) under fluctuating or stable-light regimes.   An Environment Agency contract with Dr Steve McMellor. Assessing the effect of gabion protection salt marsh re-establishment. This involved determining site characteristics, assessing marsh plant community composition, and determining whether gabion presence affected the recruitment/stability of communities. The Environment Agency then used this information to assess the efficacy of gabion placement for marshland protection strategies.

  British Phycological Society funded summer studentship project with Dr. Michael Steinke (Essex) and Dr. Jonathan Todd (UEA)University of EssexU. Clathrata salinity stress experiments. Using 17, 34, 51 and 68 salinities to culture U. clathrata and then transferring grown U. clathrata to alternative salinities, measuring the DMS produced by GC- FPD, and the DMSPp (particulate) and DMSPi (internal).University of East AngliaProteomic-GC analysis of metabolites produced in U. clathrata under the above salinity regimes. Samples analysed were frozen biomass taken from salinity stress experiments at the University of Essex. Show less

Assistant to PhD StudentIsolating bacterial strains from soil associated with different trees (Salix sp., Betula sp., Quercus sp.). Soil and leaf gas exchange measurements in the field on the above mentioned tree species.
