Doctor of philosophy - phd geological sciences

      ■ Mapped and evaluated the potential for un-expelled and retained unconventional shale oil in the Kimmeridge Clay Formation of the North Sea. Several analytical techniques were used for this research including LECO-TOC, Rock-Eval Pyrolysis, Kerogen Isolation, Density Gradient Centrifugation, Stable Isotope and Organic Petrology, XRD, FIB-SEM and Micro-CT independently performed on representative source rock samples.

Master's degree applied petroleum geosciences merit

Activities and Societies: American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) ■ I am an active member of the AAPG and founded University of Derby AAPG-Students Chapter. ■ Assisted in the registration of old and new members in the department. ■ Encouraged students participation in chapter activities, Imperial Barrel Award, training and conference attendance Research Title: Unconventional Oil and Gas Potential of the Widmerpool Gulf. ■ I designed and implemented an independent research study on "Unconventional Oil and Gas Potential of the Widmerpool Gulf using mineralogy and geochemical analytical data derived from core samples in the lab. Results of the quantitative analyses were used to evaluate unconventional shale oil and gas potential combined with burial history models.

  • Experience

    • Chevron

      Sept 2006 - Mar 2007
      Trainee geologist

      ■ Provided well log interpretation and correlation to the Formation Evaluation team■ Provided data support, managed a well database, documented and QC’ed daily well data in LAS, DLIS files collected from the drilling rigs ■ Visited Chevron's Rob Butler drilling rig as a junior support geologist for the wellsite geologists.

    • Egdon resources plc

      Jan 2013 - Nov 2013
      Associate geologist

      ■ Interpreted geological, geochemistry, seismic, and burial history datasets to evaluate the potential for unconventional shale oil and gas of Egdon's onshore Carboniferous acreage.

      Jan 2014 - Jan 2018
      Phd research scientist

Research Title: Offshore Unconventional- extracting oil from active source rocks of theKimmeridge Clay Formation of the North Sea.■Funded by Third Field/Trapoil-Durham Consortium with > £150,000 to research Offshore Unconventional (N. Sea). Results: identified optimum maturity, thickness, organic-richness, organofacies, and potential Oil reserves in N. Sea for shale oil exploitation. ■ Performed various lab analyses in the UK and USA. Collaborated with academia which resulted in a publication and presentation of research findings at Brae, BSRG, URTEC and TSOP/ICCP conferences (1 & 2). ■ Executed a novel approach of using Rock-Eval S1 yields for quantifying drainage and retention of shale oil in hybrid shale systems leading to multiple paper citations from other geoscientist experts (1). ■ Taught other postgraduates on organic petrography techniques, p: IGI-3, Genesis and IHS-Kingdom software and teaching assistant for petroleum geology classes. ■ European Association of Organic Geochemists/Durham University Funded Research Project on Geochemistry and Petrology Characterisation of Separated Maceral Concentrates of Kimmeridge Clay Formation from South Viking Graben (Offshore) and Kimmeridge Bay (Onshore). This project resulted in a broad understanding of the relationship between mineral porosity, kerogen porosity and adsorption in the storage of un-expelled oil in mature source rocks.■ Separation of the different maceral end-members using Density Gradient Centrifugation techniques and the characterisation of the separated macerals using petrography, SEM, TOC, ROCk-Eval techniques. This project contributed to our understanding of the role of each macerals group in the retention and expulsion of shale oil in general, and more particularly at sand/shale interface of thinly interbedded mature source rocks.■ Identification of the potential best area for North Sea shale oil for retained oil as well as oil eventual migration to charge conventional fields by relating kerogen type to organo-facies mapping. Studying the Paleoclimate of Jurassic Eras in Ordos Basin, China to better understand the paleoclimate change during the Early–Middle Jurassic coal-accumulating period. The research project aims and objectives are;1) To establish a chronostratigraphic framework for the Yan’an Formation using CA-ID-TIMS U-Pb dating of volcanic ash beds as well as cyclic- and bio-stratigraphy.2) To reveal paleoclimate change by analyzing macrolithotype and microlithotype of coals.3) to reconstruct pO2 evolution history of the Early-Middle Jurassic based on the former two and correlate pO2 with major geological events4) to examine the relationship between carbon accumulation rate and pO2 change and to further study the linkage between large-scale coal distribution and pO2 change.
