  As an on-call ultrasound technologist, my main responsibility is to report the facility when the full-time ultrasound technologist is unable to come in due to sickness, vacation, or personal reasons. While on duty, I perform various ultrasound examinations including: abdomen, OB/GYN, upper and lower extremity arterial and venous, breast, thyroid, testicle, and soft tissue. After each exam, I complete an exam worksheet and submit it, along with the exam pictures and the patient's file, to the on-site radiologist. Before and after each exam, I clean and disinfect my machine, the transducers, the exam table, and anything else that might come into contact with the patient in order to maintain a clean and safe environment for the patient and myself. During the exam, I help make sure the patient knows what exam they are about to have, explain what I will be doing, and answer any questions they may have. I help put them at ease and create a friendly, yet professional atmosphere to make them feel more comfortable. Between my exams or in my free time, I assist the front desk with answer phones, checking-in patients as they arrive, filing any paperwork or patient files, and anything that is asked of me. At the end of the day I meet with the radiologist to make sure she accepted all of my exams and answer any questions she may have about my pictures.
