Keyword: Boundary Element Method, Fast Solution of Acoustic Problems, Active and Passive Noise Control, High Numerical Computing, Optimisation TechniquesThe focus of the research at ICL is to:• Create a virtual platform for solving large-scale engineering acoustic propagation problems• Develop optimisation technique to reduce the noise pressure level using sensitivity analysis• Establish new active and passive noise control strategiesThe PhD was carried out with the support of the European research project with acronym SEAT under the 6th Framework Programme. The SEAT project has been focused on developing a smart seat to improve the comfort in the economy class of aircraft. In particular, the research at ICL was aimed at creating a virtual platform where studying the acoustic propagation phenomenon inside an aircraft cabin model and proposing tools for reducing the noise level perceived by passengers.Master and last year undergraduate students course: Buckling and Post-buckling Behaviour of a Panel in Compression Show less

Project Executive Manager - City Free Project

City Free is a project based in Palermo, Sicily, granted by the MIUR (Ministry of Instruction, University and Research of Italy) in the call PON R&S 2007-2013 Announcement D.D. 84/Ric del 2 March 2012, Smart Cities and Social Innovation, and consists on developing a new sustainable transportation system based on sharing concept. The idea is to develop a mobile app to instantly match drivers with riders traveling in similar directions ensuring high levels of trust and safety standards. Our research target is the college student and our test starts from the main Sicilian Colleges, intended as HUB. HUBs are distinctive meeting points that create an established network between different places. Colleges and Universities, in particular, are places where a number of users arrive and start their trips back home. Situation: in 2012-2013 only the 12% of the college students know what carpooling is.Task: teaching process with an innovative approach (upside-down education), simply user experienceAction: several interview and application of the Lean Management approachResults: more than 5.000 users (critical mass) enrolled the project.---Project objective: Develop a mobile app to instantly match drivers with riders traveling in similar directionsInitiating: develop project charter, identify stakeholdersPlanning phase: define scope, create WBS, develop schedule, plan risk response, stakeholder, procurement and communication managementExecuting phase: acquire team, manage project work, manage communications, procurement and stakeholdersMonitoring & Controling phase: monitor and control project work, validate scope, control schedule, costs, procurement, quality and risksClosing phase: close procurements and project, send results to main sponsorProject outcome: real-time carpool sharing in urban areas has been provided with more than 6.000 usersMore on http://www.ponrec.it/open-data/risultati/social-innovation/pon04a3_00399/ Show less

Cost and structural analysis and supervising works for a refurbishment of a private sewerage system I'm working on the starting phases for two projects, one in fashion and the other in sailing fields, in order to develop a project charter: requirements documentation, feasibility and marketing studies, high level planning, prototyping and test. Also the possibility of acceding to a loan using crowdfunding platforms has been evaluated. As acoustic engineer I've worked to simulate the sound propagation around and inside big ancient buildings as pyramids and obelisks. The goals are to evaluate both internal and external sound propagation locating point source and planewaves. Moreover, an home-made code as been formulated and implemented to predict the natural frequencies for every shape object.

      Desk Manager

I worked for Oxfam Italia for the project “Incarta il presente, regala un futuro” “Wrap the present, give a future” where I manage 2 donation desks: a toyshop in Palermo and a perfumery in Carini. The PMI standards for project manager have been utilised to successful reach the project goal. The aim was to hire, train and manage volunteers to wrap presents of clients and ask them a small donation for helping populations of Darfur in the south of Sudan. The hiring process was successful completed with roughly 80 volunteers, of which 50 from 2 high schools and 3 school classes and the remaining using charity and volunteer organizations. The 5-hour training course for students was focused on transmitting motivation to the project and awareness of each personal contribution to the final goal of the project and it was divided into 4 parts:- Introduction for the project, presentation of each students, breathing excercise- Presentation of problems of developing countries using an experimental approach- Games focused on increasing confidence and responsibility- Communication techniquesThe volunteer management was focused on creating a positive and inspiring environment. Each volunteer was asked to work at a single task. There were three main tasks:- comunication with the potential donor- wrap the gift- manage the line and complete all the operations to provide and quick and precise service. As a results I was able to donate the highest amount of donations in the whole Sicily.
