      Feb 2017 - Dec 2019
Conservation & Collections Management Student Assistant

As the Conservation Student Assistant, I mainly made storage boxes and folders to rehouse the museum's artifacts. The type of artifacts I rehoused depended on the grants we received. I have created foam mounts for Etruscan metal artifacts and statues, also painting braces for the larger statues. I also handmade silica gel sachets and dehumidified bags to store those iron artifacts susceptible to corrosion. I also custom handmade storage folders, lined with muslin, for large Peruvian textiles. I once cleaned the exterior of 50 Chinese snuff bottles with wet cotton swabs.Whenever we needed to prepare artifacts for exhibitions, I helped to clean artifacts (dusting, swabbing, polishing, vacuuming, etc.) and wrote up conservation treatment reports. I then updated the online collections database after performing an inventory. As a Collections Management Student Assistant, my daily duties consisted of retrieving and putting away artifacts for researchers and classes. I also had to inventory and update the online collections database. I would also rehouse & photograph valuable artifacts. I, as well as a few other work-study students, was in charge of rehousing and photographing the museum’s global coin collection as part of a metals grant. Because I wanted to work closely with more complex artifacts, I petitioned my supervisor to transfer to the Conservation department. Show less
